Thermal Chimney Awaiting Skin
Here we are in Ballarat again at the Flecknoe Building, at Federation University. This is a photo taken just the other day, of the steel framing that will create the thermal chimney, flanking the lift core and stair. The thermal chimney will precondition (heat) air entering the building, reducing the load on the air conditioning system in Winter. This physical system was designed by the team here at Baumgart Clark Architects, with modelling to verify its performance and tune the design undertaken by Cundall, our go-to environmental and sustainability engineers. The chimney was integrated with the mechanical system designed by Fryda Dorne and Associates.
Thermal chimney framing - the left hand half of the chimney will have a copper skin.
